Make cheap phone calls with the VOIP PDF Print E-mail

notelkomman

No more struggles with your landline operator!!!!

What is VOIP and what are the advantages?

VOIP is the acronym for Voice Over Internet Protocol. In short, VOIP allows voice calls to be made over Internet.

VOIP calls are much cheaper, especially when phoning internationally. Qualities of the calls are better controlled than other services like Skype.

VOIP services aren’t location based, and therefore can be used anywhere in the world.

Call records are in real-time and can be monitored 24/7.

A VOIP call uses data, and does affect your bandwidth usage. However bandwidth usage is kept to a minimal by using the G729a codec. This allows up to 4000 minutes on 1 gigabyte or about 2c per minute extra to the call charges.

What are the savings? (Rates as of 15 April 2013)

Destination BreedeNet Telkom Savings
On Network Free R 0.50 100%
Local R 0.27 R 0.42 37%
National R 0.27 R 0.57 51%
Mobile R 0.65 R 1.40 54%
  • Telkom's minimum charge is R0.57. Saving calcutated on an average mix of long and short calls.
  • Call to 080 (toll-free) numbers and emergency service numbers (112, 1011, 10117) are free
  • Calls to directory equiries and telkom operator services (10xx) are charge at the national rate.

Since VOIP phones are not location based, it cannot make an distinction between local and national calls. Thus, phoning a local number or a national number costs the same.

** These rates are equivalent when taking into consideration minimum call charges
